Undergraduate Programs in Global and National Security

GNSPI offers two undergraduate programs, housed in the University College, a concentration in Global & National Security in the Liberal Arts and Integrative Studies major (LAIS-GNS) and an undergraduate certificate in National Security & Strategic Analysis (NSSA).

LAIS-GNS Concentration

GNSPI offers an undergraduate concentration in Global and National Security within the Liberal Arts and Integrative major (LAIS-GNS). The degree is an interdisciplinary undergraduate concentration taught by expert and experienced UNM faculty.

LAIS-GNS Concentration Requirements:

  • GLNS 340: Introduction to Global & National Security
  • Fourth Semester non-English launguage proficiency
  • Math 1350 or any Calculus-level MATH course
  • PHIL 1120: Logic, Reasoning and Critical Thinking
  • Any Computer Science (CS) course
  • 9 Credits of GNS Core electives
  • 21 credits of approved electives

National Security & Strategic Analysis certificate

GNSPI offers an undergraduate certificate in National Security & Strategic Analysis (NSSA). The certificate is prepare students for careers in the intelligence field as part of GNSPI's role as an Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence. The NSSA certificate is designed to complement any major where students develop their deep disciplinary skillset (e.g., STEM, social sciences, humanities, language, etc.) that they can apply to intelligence analysis--the combination of disciplinary skills and intelligence anlaysis skills is a powerful signal to recruiters that the student has what it takes to work in intelligence fields. The certificate is an interdisciplinary and is taught by experienced intelligence professionals from places like the CIA, DIA, US Army, and the DoE.
